T-RACKs: A Faster Recovery Mechanism for TCP in Data Center Networks

چکیده

Cloud interactive data-driven applications generate swarms of small TCP flows that compete for the switch buffer space in data-center. Such require a flow completion time (FCT) to be effective. Unfortunately, is myopic with respect composite nature application data. In addition it tends artificially inflate FCT individual by several orders magnitude, because its Internet-centric design, fixes retransmission timeout (RTO) at least hundreds milliseconds. To better understand this problem, paper, we use empirical measurements data center testbed study, microscopic level, effects various types packet losses on TCP's performance. particular, single out impact tail end flows, as well bursty span significant fraction congestion windows, and show non-negligible effect such FCT. Based this, propose so-called, timely-retransmitted ACKs (or T-RACKs), simple loss recovery mechanism conceals drawbacks long RTO even presence heavy losses. Interestingly enough, T-RACKS achieves transparently itself does not any change tenant's virtual machine (VM) or container. T-RACKs can implemented software shim layer hypervisor between VMs server's NIC hardware networking function SmartNIC. Simulation real results remarkable performance improvements.

Tcp with Faster Recovery

Among the problems affecting the current version of TCP are the slow recovery upon a coarse timeout expiration on long, fat pipes, and the reaction to random segment losses. Both problems are known to reduce the throughput of a connection. In our paper, we propose and evaluate the merits of a class of TCP modifications obtained through a source-based estimate of the available bandwidth by measu...

AMP: A Better Multipath TCP for Data Center Networks

In recent years several multipath data transport mechanisms, such as MPTCP and XMP, have been introduced to effectively exploit the path diversity of data center networks (DCNs). However, these multipath schemes have not been widely deployed in DCNs. We argue that two key factors among others impeded their adoption: TCP incast and minimum window syndrome. First, these mechanisms are ill-suited ...

Congestion Control for TCP in Data-Center Networks

The several corresponding servers may send the data concurrently in a circle manner to a specific receiver. For example, data center applications such as Map-Reduce and Search applications are using many-to-one TCP traffic pattern i.e. parallel data delivery. While TCP connection is slow down the concurrent data deliver. The data delivery delay ensured the packet loss and time out in the TCP co...

TCP Westwood: congestion control with faster recovery

In this paper we propose a new version of the TCP protocol, called TCP Westwood, which enhances the performance of TCP window congestion control by using as feedback the end-to-end measurement of the bandwidth available along a TCP connection. The available bandwidth is estimated at the TCP source by measuring and low-pass filtering the returning rate of acknowledgments. The estimated bandwidth...

The TCP Outcast Problem: Exposing Unfairness in Data Center Networks

In this paper, we observe that bandwidth sharing via TCP in commodity data center networks organized in multi-rooted tree topologies can lead to severe unfairness, which we term as the TCP Outcast problem, under many common traffic patterns. When many flows and a few flows arrive at two ports of a switch destined to one common output port, the small set of flows lose out on their throughput sha...
